William Cairns

William Cairns:

Dr. William (Bill) Cairns is the Chief Scientist for TrojanUV of London, Ontario, Canada. Bill has his doctoral degree in biochemistry and biophysics; has variously taught biochemistry, organic and industrial organic chemistry, photobiology, biochemical engineering and engineering unit operations for wastewater treatment at two different universities. Bill has more that 25 years of academic, institutional, and industrial research experience in fundamentals and applications of microbial systems, photochemistry, and biological photoresponses. Since 1989, Bill has been responsible for the internal research programs and contracts of TrojanUV, and has interfaced with university and industrial collaborators on research programs directed towards making advances in using ultraviolet light for water treatment technologies. Bill is currently a Board member of an Ontario Centre of Excellence that has a research and technology development focus in the environmental area.

Ron Hallett

Ron Hallett:

Ron Hallett is Chief Technology Officer of UV Pure Technologies, a company he co-founded in 1998 to pursue development and commercialization of dramatically improved technology for the disinfection of water using ultraviolet radiation. Prior to this Hallett spent more than 10 years engineering some of the world’s leading, sophisticated, large-scale water treatment systems. A scientific leader, Hallett sits on the NSF/ANSI 55 Class A task force and is the inventor of a number of technology patents for the use of Ozone and UV for chemical reduction and disinfection purposes. Hallett holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds memberships in the American Society of Industrial Engineers, the Association of Professional Engineers in Ontario and the American Water Works Association. Previously, Hallett was product engineering manager at Calgon Carbon, a leading manufacturer of large-scale water treatment systems serving the North American and European markets. Prior to that Hallett held senior engineer management roles at companies including SailRail Enterprises, a manufacturer of material handling systems for North America, ITW Canada, Inc., Upjohn Company of Canada and Union Carbide Canada.
